Typical villages, the Alsace Wine Route, and storks—a flight in full regalia.

Kaysersberg — voted France's favourite village in 2017 and birthplace of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Albert Schweitzer. This enchanting medieval town, with its cobbled lanes, richly decorated half-timbered houses and fortified bridge, is a perfect introduction to Alsace. Then Riquewihr, the pearl of the Alsatian vineyards — its closely-packed houses from the 13th to 18th centuries, including the impressive Dolder gatehouse, have changed little over the centuries.

Lunch at the Nid

then a visit to the stork and otter reintroduction centre in Hunawihr — one of the loveliest experiences in Alsace. The day ends at a Wine Route cellar, with a tasting of the region's finest vintages.

Strasbourg, the city where Gutenberg and Rouget de Lisle made their mark – Obernai, the charm of the Alsatian town

Strasbourg's Petite France quarter — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most romantic historic neighbourhoods in Europe. A guided walking tour or boat trip along the River Ill (optional supplement). The great Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame is an absolute masterpiece.

then Obernai — a medieval town of great character, with a beautiful belfry, ramparts and a townscape that is quintessentially Alsatian. Obernai is also the birthplace of Saint Odile, the patron saint of Alsace.
