Day 2

Luçon and its most famous bishop, Richelieu – La Ferme des Coûts, a paradise for stags, does, and fawns.

Depart for Luçon to visit the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, which boasts the distinction of having had Cardinal Richelieu officiate there. Next, visit the Dumaine Garden—an estate spanning four hectares that pays tribute to Jean de La Fontaine and is ranked among "the most beautiful gardens in France."

Head to Chambretaud, where—nestled between two valleys in the Vendée countryside—the Ferme des Coûts welcomes you with its herd of 250 stags, does, and fawns living in a semi-wild state; it is a fascinating introduction to deer farming. Afterwards, you will sample farm products made using traditional recipes.

St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, sardine fishing – Les Sables d’Olonne, the seaside town

Depart for St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, a charming seaside resort and the leading Atlantic fishing port for sardine landings (over 2,500 tonnes per year). At the "La Perle des Dieux" cannery, the film *La sardine est dans la boîte* ("The Sardine in the Tin") reveals the sardine's remarkable journey from the sea to the can! Then, enjoy a tasting session where you can savor this small silvery fish prepared in various ways.

Next, depart for Les Sables-d’Olonne to explore the Shell Museum and its collection—unique in Europe—of 45,000 shells from around the world. Enjoy some free time in the town to wander the narrow streets and admire historic shipowners' houses, 18th-century residences, seaside villas, fishermen's cottages, and more.
