Day 2

A Gabarre Cruise on the Dordogne & the Village of Le Bournat

Board a gabarre (a traditional flat-bottomed river barge) to discover the landscapes of the Dordogne as they have appeared to travellers for centuries: limestone cliffs, chateaux perched on rocky promontories and the great sweep of the river through the Perigord Noir.

Lunch

The reconstructed village of Le Bournat (open April to September) transports visitors back to 1900 — born from an exceptional private collection, it is a vivid and affectionate portrait of rural Perigord life at the turn of the last century.

Day 3

Medieval Sarlat & the Gardens of Eyrignac

Sarlat-la-Caneda : one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in France. Its pale golden stone houses, slate rooftops and labyrinthine alleyways have changed little since the Middle Ages. The traditional market (Wednesdays and Saturdays) brings the town to life with all the flavours of the Perigord: truffles, foie gras, walnuts and local wines.

Lunch nearby

A guided tour of the gardens of the Manoir d'Eyrignac — a magnificent example of French formal gardening, set within a 200-hectare estate. The Jardins d'Eyrignac surround a 17th-century family manor with a living composition of topiary, fountains and seasonal planting that changes with every season.
